SafeBoot® Content Encryption™ transparently encrypts select files and folders automatically and on-the-fly before they move throughout your organization. It also ensures that files and folders are secure wherever they are saved, including on local hard disks, file servers, removable media, and more.

Scalable and easy to use, SafeBoot® Content Encryption™ enables administrators to easily specify the local or server-based files, file types, or folders that are to be encrypted. In accordance with your organization's security policies, administrators can also designate which users and groups will have the encryption key, allowing them to easily access and share specified files and folders across the network. Encrypted data stored on the network is safe even from all unauthorized personnel, even the administrator. Users cannot detect the encryption or decryption process, because there is no performance loss and no action is required on the part of the user.

SafeBoot® Content Encryption™ is a filter driver-based encryption solution, offering several advantages over competitors' application-based solutions. Also, the solution is powered by SafeBoot® Persistent Encryption Technology™ (PET), so files and folders remain encrypted regardless of where they are copied or saved, even if they are attached to an e-mail, are used in terminal services environments, or are stored on removable media such as USB memory sticks, CDs, or DVDs. Most competing solutions cannot address this. Also, SafeBoot® Content Encryption™ can encrypt offline files locally and centrally, while compressed files can be encrypted like any regular file. Finally, it can encrypt all files and folders at the original location-no special folders or dedicated drives are created or required -a nd all encrypted files maintain their original extension and format.

The rollout of SafeBoot® Content Encryption™ is a simple process, because it perfectly integrates with Windows® and existing IT environments. Once deployed, the solution is easily administered through SafeBoot® Management Center's™ GUI or Web-based interface. Mandatory security policies are enforced, and users cannot avoid compliance. Thus, SafeBoot® Content Encryption™ helps your organization comply with legislation on the security of mission-critical data assets, whenever they are moved or shared and wherever they are or stored.

BitLocker and Content Encryption

The new BitLocker feature in Windows® Vista ® introduces a built-in hard disk encryption solution for the Vista platform. Several analyses and statements are available regarding the BitLocker technology, both from independent analyst firms as well as from existing hard disk encryption software vendors, including SafeBoot.

The BitLocker functionality cannot be compared with SafeBoot’s Content Encryption™. Its technology is only comparable with SafeBoot® Device Encryption™. SafeBoot Content Encryption is about encrypting files and folders on local drives, file servers and removable media, using a powerful central administration system and enforceable policies. BitLocker is about encrypting local disk partitions only (i.e. no dedicated encryption of sensitive information).

The technologies do not interfere, as they operate on different levels. Rather, they complement each other just like SafeBoot Content Encryption complements SafeBoot Device Encryption.
