Office-Shadow adopted by Project Oasis

Shadow-Planner is adopted as the development platform for Project Oasis, an EU funded initative to develop a Pan European Risk Methodology to manage Trans-National Risk across the European Union

Office-Shadow launches a Risk Analysis module for their award winning Shadow-Planner platform developed in conjunction with Cranfield University.

Development Partnership

The new Resilience Centre is co-located with the Defence Academy of the UK, and is one of Europe's leading centres for both training and research in risk and security. The Centre has unrivalled access to a wealth of security and defence related material within the Defence Academy.

One of the Defence Academy’s key objectives is to develop a software methodology for risk and security training as well as for the development of continuity planning. It was this that brought Office-Shadow’s award winning Shadow-Planner product to their attention.

“We needed a software platform that was robust and easy to use, yet flexible enough to allow us to use the system for simulation modelling and teaching”. says Ivar Hellberg, Director of the Resilience Centre, “Following an extensive evaluation of the available options, we were particularly impressed by Shadow-Planner’s open architecture. The fact that it is a UK developed, web based product in line with the e-government initiative, is a bonus. Shadow-Planner will assist us with our recent EU OASIS contract to develop a security methodology and infrastructure for the European Union”. (1)

It is anticipated that this risk and security methodology will become standard for both government institutions and corporate business throughout the European Union.

While Shadow-Planner’s Crisis Management Module was ideal for contingency and business continuity planning, Cranfield University (at the Defence Academy) saw the need for an integrated threat analysis and risk and security system as critical to enable organisations to reduce the risk of disruption from undesirable events.

In response, Office-Shadow and Cranfield University have jointly developed a Risk and Security module operating alongside the continuity-planning tool on the Shadow-Planner platform. This module allows any organisation to carry out a full threat and risk analysis to determine how residual risks can best be eliminated or reduced. Options can then be grouped into projects so that clear comparisons can be made from a cost-benefit analysis, and how this affects the risk register.

“For the first time an organisation will be able to model their exposure along with the impact and associated cost of any risk reduction measures in real time and feed these results directly into their risk mitigation strategy”. Says Simon Maddox, Office-Shadow’s Technical Director, “This will allow Senior Managers to draw on a dynamic snapshot of their organisations resilience and make risk informed strategic decisions based on clear objective evidence.

The Oasis Project

(1) The EC OASIS project focuses on a Pan European Risk Methodology to manage Trans-National Risk. A consortia headed by Ivar Hellberg at the Defence Academy at Cranfield put in a successful bid based on the knowledge, experience and tools they could deliver. Shadow-Planner is considered to be the route to delivery, i.e. the system in which to build the Plan Methodology.
